INSTAGRAM AND YOUTUBE RAP SENSATION YURIN RECENTLY PERFORMED ON A REMAKE OF AN ALL FEMALE VERSION OF THE EPIK HIGH TRACK, BORN HATER. WE SAW IT AND WE HEARD IT. WE WERE BLOWN AWAY. WE SENT OUR CURATOR FERD ISAACS TO FIND OUT WHAT IS HAPPENING! THIS IS WHAT IS HAPPENING!
Where are you from?
I’m from Korea, however I’ve been living in Australia for over 11 years.
How did you get your rap name?
My real name is Chae-rin Yoo, but I felt like using another name could seperate my ‘normal’ image from my ‘rapper’ image, so I decided to combine my last name and the first syllable of my first name to create Yoo + Rin = Yoorin = Yurin
How long have you been rapping?
I started rapping covers just for fun back in 2012, but I properly considered it in late 2014, early 2015
What made you start rapping?
I’ve always loved music as a kid, especially Kpop. The friends around me had such talented singing voices, which they could express their passion in. I on the other hand cannot sing. I always loved dancing, however my parents never gave me a chance to join dance classes. I thought the only way of expressing my own passion for music is if I started to rap. I properly started with the inspiration from the lyrics of ‘Born Singer’ by BTS. The way they were able to express their own story inspired me to start writing my own.
Describe your style of rapping?
I would say my style is more weighted and toned down.
Will you enter SMTM6?
I don’t plan to, I consider myself as an amateur at the moment who’s learning different rap styles by covering other’s songs. But hopefully I can learn and expand more to a solo rapper.
Who are your favorite producers?
Tablo, Zico, Suga and RM
In the music industry who do you look up to?
I look up to Suga (Yoongi) mostly. He’s gone through many difficult stages of life including dealing with depression along with pursuing what seemed like an impossible/unstable career at the time, yet has come so far to make meaningful lyrics that everyone can relate to.
What are your Facebook/Instagram/Twitter links?
Don’t have FB or Twitter, but I do have a Youtube account.
Instagram: @yurin.kr
Any plans for your future in Rap/Hip-Hop?
I plan on releasing more self written raps later in the future, and improve of delivering my message to inspire others to do what they dream of.
